The 7th SOPRAN Annual Meeting in 2014 was hosted by the University of Bremen and took place in Bremen on 25/26 March. On the first day overview talks were presented by Reiner Steinfeldt (University of Bremen), Peter Minnett (RSMAS, Miami, USA) and Tatiana Ilyina (MPI Meteorology, Hamburg) followed by overview talks about SOPRAN data management by Dirk Fleischer and SOLAS IPO by Emilie Brevière (both from GEOMAR, Kiel).
During the poster session on Tuesday afternoon more than 30 posters were presented and sparked many lively discussions about the presented results. The oral and poster presentations covered the broad thematic spectrum of SOPRAN incl. measurements from atmospheric/ocean observatories at the Cape Verde Islands, results from SOPRAN cruises to the tropical Atlantic Ocean/Mauritanian upwelling and the upwelling off Peru, studies of the air-sea gas exchange in the Heidelberg Aeolotron, CO2 enrichment experiments, halocarbon production and emissions as well as aerosol chemistry and physics.
On Wednesday morning two highlight talks by young scientists were given by Tim Boxhammer and Franziska Ziska (both from GEOMAR, Kiel). Afterwards the upcoming activities during the next one and a half years of SOPRAN III were introduced by the Theme leaders and discussed in detail in working groups. About 60 participants attended the meeting.
The 8th and last SOPRAN Annual Meeting in March 2015 will be hosted by the MPI for Chemistry in Mainz.
